Proud to be accociated with the Black Dog Institute
St Elmo Medical Practice is proud to be accociated with the Black Dog Institute. General Practitioners are typically the first clinical point of contact for people seeking help with their mental health. We offer a Mental Wellbeing Check using an online tablet. Your results are dowloaded to your file in real time so you may discuss any concerns you may have with your GP at the same appointment.
Founded in 2002 and affiliated with the University of NSW and Prince of Wales Hospital, Black Dog Institute operates in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder.
They combine expertise in clinical management with cutting edge research to develop new, and more effective, strategies for people living with mood disorders.
The Black Dog Institute’s activity spans the health spectrum from lab bench, to patients, to public health. They place emphasis on the translation of research discoveries into accessible evidence-based clinical practices that focus on prevention, early intervention, treatment and recovery.
The Black Dog Institute promotes better mental health through their clinically-endorsed school, workplace and community programs. They are also involved in training the next generation of health care providers through GP, psychologist and psychiatrist programs.
The Black Dog Institute’s ultimate vision is of a world where people understand that mood disorders like depression can be prevented and managed and there is hope. By achieving this vision, they will reduce the impact of mental illness and bring the Black Dog to heel.
