Oceana opened for business in November 1996 and is one of the largest privately owned purpose built fitness & aquatic facilities in Australia.
Dean Ewington continues in his role as Managing Director after starting in the industry in 1990.
Dean has been actively involved in promoting the water safety, preventative health, and fitness industry in Tasmania for over 30 years. He was recognised for this work in 2011, by being added to the Fitness Australia National Roll of Honour.
Dean was elected to Clarence City Council as an Alderman in 2018 with a focus on helping to improve the health & wellbeing of locals. He is the Chair of the Sport & recreation Advisory Committee, the Bicycle Advisory Committee and the Tracks and Trails Advisory Committee.
He was the driving force for the addition of the pontoon at Bellerive Beach which was finally launched in March 2020 and advocates for further improvements to recreational infrastructure in our city that will create active, socially connected lifestyles for all ages and abilities.

In 2015 we have added Optimum Health Solutions Tasmania which is a multi-disciplinary allied health clinic that is based at Oceana. Optimum has grown over that time to 20 full time staff in exercise physiology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics & speech pathology
In 2020 we launched Hobart’s only purpose built paediatric therapy room to create a space that allows children with disabilities or injury to have access to child friendly therapy equipment and spaces.
