CLEANING AND CARE – ALL PIERCINGS
Wash your hands thoroughly prior to cleaning or touching your piercing. Clean piercing once or twice daily. Over cleaning piercing can delay healing. Spray New Image Piercing solution onto the piercing site twice daily. Use a mild saline solution – dissolve half a teaspoon of raw cooking salty, sea or rock salt into one cup of boiled water and let it cool. DO NOT make solution stronger. Renew solution daily. Gently pat dry. Avoid Betadine, Hibiciens, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or harsh soaps as these can damage cells. Ointments can prevent air circulation
ESSENTIAL FOR ALL PIERCINGS
Check that you can see both entry and exit jewellery sitting ABOVE the skin. If any part of the jewellery is sinking into the flesh, come into New Image Salon or see your doctor immediatley. Contact New Image immediatey if swelling creates pressure.
All piercings especially ORAL require you to regularly check threaded ends on your jewellery for tightness (“Right-tight, left-loose”). Do not remove jewellery until the piercing is completely healed, unless there is a problem. Initially there may be some bleeding, localised swelling, tenderness or bruising. The tissue may tighten around the jewellery as it heals. Piercings heal from the outside in and the inside tissue remains fragile.
If bleeding occurs apply pressure and see your doctor. Healed piercings can shrink or close, regardless of how old they are. Do not leave piercing empty. Avoid friction from clothing and excessive movement/playing with the jewellery. if the area around your piercing is hot or itchy, you may be having a metal reaction.
Avoid oral contact, rough play and contact with other bodily fluids on or near your piercing during healing. Change bedding regularly. Wear clean, comfortable, breathable clothing that protects your piercing.
Stress and recreational drug use, including excessive caffeine, nicotine and alcohol should be avoided. Exercise during healing is fine, listen to your body. Do not submerge piercing in unhygienic bodies of water such as lakes, pools, hot tubs etc. Do not use beauty and personal care products on or around the piercing. Seek medical help immediately if you are concerned about your piercing.
