Mt Isa Medical Centre became operational in December 2014. The team at Mt Isa Medical Centre have a keen interest in saving lives and improving the overall health outcomes of the Mt Isa community.
With its multidisciplinary team of GPs and specialists, Mt Isa Medical Centre aims to resolve the city’s longstanding shortage of doctors and provide people with prime access to quality general practitioner services.
Alongside services that patients expect from a general medical practitioner, Mt Isa Medical Centre offers a range of services including; obstetrics; contraception and family planning; healthcare specific to men, women and children of all ages; immunisations and vaccinations; work-related health checks; skin checks and; GP management plans for those with chronic conditions. With endorsements from the Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL), Mt Isa Medical Centre offers industry leading GP and medical specialist services. Affiliated with James Cook University, the medical centre also acts as a training ground for the community’s future general medical practitioners. Mt Isa Medical Centre has received training accreditations from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).
The Mt Isa Medical Centre team is led by Dr Michael Mbaogu, a seasoned medical practitioner with a wealth of experience.
Dr Mbaogu has a keen interest in rural health, and is focused on bettering the health outcomes of those dwelling in less built-up areas. He trained as a GP in the United Kingdom, and practised there and in Canada before coming to Australia. He holds fellowships in general practice in all 3 countries.
