Killen’s Smash Repairs is a family owned business and is New England and Armidale’s longest serving smash repairer. Established over fifty years ago by Paul and Gwen Killen in 1970, the business is now operated by their son, Michael Killen and overseen by Gwen. Killen’s is proud to remain a family business and has developed into the largest repairer in the Northwest/ New England area.

After completing his apprenticeship at Hardmans Garage at the age of 16, Paul Killen went into business in 1970 with David Reid establishing ‘Killen and Reid Smash Repairs’ located in Ohio Street. The small business eventually gained two apprentices, one learning panel beating and the other spray painting who stayed with the company for over 20 years. In 1975 Paul and his wife Gwen decided to continue the business by themselves and purchased Killen’s current site, 246 Mann Street and renamed the business ‘Killen’s Smash Repairs’. Since then, surrounding land has been purchased as the business has expanded and in 2004 the whole shop underwent a complete renovation.

Today, the 3800m2 site has a large workshop, a paint shop containing two spray booths and prep bays, a second structural repair workshop, a detailing bay, a parts storage area and a spacious reception. The workshop is equipped with some of the most up-to-date equipment and technology and is constantly evolving. Staff are regularly trained in using new equipment and in the development of new and more effective techniques and processes. Killen’s is also the only body shop in country NSW that has Green Stamp Accreditation “beyond compliance” alongside being the only GM Holden Certified Collision Repairer and Subaru Certified Collision Repairer!

Currently Killen’s has 14 staff members that include spray painters, panel beaters, estimators, a detailer, a parts processor and administrators. The staff are made up of qualified tradesman and apprentices, some of which have been with Killen’s for 40 years. The staff consider themselves part of the extended Killen’s family and pride themselves on their excellent workmanship that has helped build the businesses reliable and superior reputation.
